CEDRAT TECHNOLOGIES participation to 13th International Conference on New actuators was once again an undeniable opportunity to meet prospects and present its wide range of products and technologies.

During the conference oral and poster sessions were held. Dr Frank Claeyssen, managing director of CEDRAT TECHNOLOGIES since January 2012, was chairman of the sessions dedicated to Aerospace.

Inertial Piezoelectric motors: Designs, productions, tests and applications

Abstract:

Inertial Piezoelectric Motors are basically considered as extremely simple motors, but weak and slow compared to the other piezoelectric motor  technologies. The present study is about introduction of amplified piezoelectric actuator as active component of an inertial motor. The aim of this work is to understand and validate the benefits from amplification in terms of motor maximal speed as well as motor input current, with theory and experimentations. Building of models, analytical then numerical, allows arguing on real interests and limitation of the proposed innovation. As a complement, designs, realisations and tests are made on three different scales of motors, in order to fit various environments constrains. These constrains go from strong magnetic fields compatibility (such as Magnetic Resonant Medical Imaging) to space application field (vacuum, vibrations…), passing by miniaturisation, force maximisation, as well as low temperature operation (down to -180°C). Completing design, use of “adjustable” parameters of inertial motors, input signal as an example, gives larger application opportunities, by increasing force range, etc. Finally, because design process using “stopped” and “adjustable” parameters seems to other good application perspectives to mechatronics domain, this process is summarised and generalized in order to be used by designers.

The SPA30uXS Developer Kit offers the possibility to discover the potential of the SPA30uXS, smallest existing SPA, in stepping mode. With an external dedicated miniature driver (SPC45), and coupled to a high resolution magnetic sensor, the Developer Kit is a fully closed-loop solution for high resolution millimetric motion.

The AVIBUS R&D project (Drilling with Vibration Assistance by Piezoelectric Actuators) sustained by the PEGASE and VIAMECA clusters funded by the FUI8 (National French R&D Funding), aims at developing vibrating, active, auto adaptive tool-holders for the drilling of various materials as well as the associated process.

The project is coordinated by CEDRAT TECHNOLOGIES, with the help of ENSAM for the machining process aspects. The partners of the project are CETIM, DUFIEUX Industrie, EADS Innovation Works, G2ELAB/UJF, RICHAUD and SECO-EPB.

The objective of Onera/DLR’s “Active Flap Rotor” project is to create a four-blade wind tunnel rotor characterized by an active flap on the trailing edge. A full scale adaptable flap actuator model was made by Onera.
It includes one of CEDRAT TECHNOLOGIES's APA® (Amplified Piezo Actuators) based on using prestressed piezoelectric stacks.
